BIGS made this app for students and persons with interest on the technic of the MRI. We explain in this the physical basic knowledge of a MRI, like 3 pulse sequences. (Spin echo sequence, inversion recovery sequence or gradient echo sequence)
This app you can buy in English and German. Within this app, the user can choose between the languages. Our further reading system let you find more information for MRI in books or other media`s very quickly. With our play control it is possible to navigate in this animation.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), formerly known as magnetic resonance tomography (MRT), is an increasingly successful method for examining tissue and material structures, sizes and compositions, mainly in medicine but also in other fields such as archaeology or materials science.
MRI is based on harmless natural processes at the atomic level such as the modification of proton spin by magnetic fields or radio frequency pulses.
The signals generated can be registered and evaluated by computer-assisted image processing systems. Because of the mode of operation of an MRI system, an element with an odd number of protons must be selected. MRI systems are calibrated specifically for the element to be detected.
As a result of the concentration of hydrogen in living tissue, examinations of human tissue based on hydrogen protons have proved to be especially effective.
In simplified terms, the formula for the examination of a patient could be expressed as follows:
Patient in magnetic field
+ Radio frequency pulses acting on patient (transmitter)
+ Computer-assisted signal detection and processing (receiver)
= 2D images of human tissue suitable for evaluation
